The French Honor Society, “La Société Honoraire de Français,” is Wheaton North’s chapter of the national organization developed to recognize students who have displayed exceptional achievement in the study of French. The American Association of Teachers of French sponsors the organization. The number of members of French Honor Society grows larger each year as interest in the French language continues to grow.
To become a member of L'Alliance Française, you must have a 4.6 unweighted French GPA.
The student must be taking French in the semester he/she is inducted, and must attend the initiation ceremony. To continue to be a member of FHS, one must continue studying the French language.

Throughout the year, members have held a Christmas party, tutored, taken a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago to study French Impressionism, and have had banquet dinners each semester to celebrate French cuisine. (A very delicious celebration.)

Members have also assisted with:
Déjeuner sur l’herbe- French students give up Wheaton North’s cuisine to participate in a lunchtime French picnic and cultural activity called “déjeuner sur l’herbe,” named for the famous painting by Edouard Manet. The students bring French food to share with their friends and classmates. While enjoying the cuisine, students are entertained by talented French student street performers: mimes, magicians, actors, musicians and automates. Activities for the event included Tour de France races, portrait painting, sidewalk art, and pétanque (bocce ball) games.
Art Institute – French students have traveled to Chicago to visit the Art Institute where they studied and admired the artwork of French Impressionists.
Bûche de Noël Contest - This contest takes place in late December during the Christmas season. French students have the opportunity to show off their French cooking talents in this contest as they make traditional French Yule log cakes, judged by the Wheaton North faculty.
